Yoga Therapy

Yoga therapy is a multi-dimensional, evidence-based and holistic approach to improving health, utilising the many tools of yoga and the wisdom of Ayurveda.

Yoga therapy uses a whole person approach - looking at the different layers of the body (physical body, breath, mind, emotions, and soul) like exploring the hidden layers of an onion.

Yoga therapy delves deeper than just the presented physical issue as it looks into the whole story including lifestyle, habits and diet.

We work together to set goals to enhance your health and wellbeing.

Although general yoga classes can improve general health and resolve mild complaints, they may be ineffective or even harmful for serious conditions.

One size doesn’t fit all.

Gyani will create a bespoke yoga program integrating the ancient wisdom of yoga and ayurveda with modern sciences to offer accessible interventions to support a healing journey.

“Words fail to convey the total value of yoga. It has to be experienced.”

– B.K.S Iyengar

How do Yoga Therapy Sessions Work?

Support your body's innate healing potential

An individual therapy session is ideal for someone who needs more support than a mainstream yoga class can offer. Private yoga therapy sessions are tailored to meet your needs and your health goals.

To help you progress towards these goals, Gyani will provide you with a home program that will easily blend into your daily life. Dependent on your situation, she may also provide easy to follow lifestyle and dietary advice. You will then have all the tools to implement the program, and it will be up to you to commit the time to practise every day.

Investing in yourself is one of the most important things you can do to create lasting health and contentment. Therefore, Gyani recommends a minimum of three sessions, over a 3 month period, to encourage optimal progress towards a healthy body and calm mind.

What to expect in the sessions

Session 1: The initial 90 minute consultation begins with a detailed assessment of your current health conditions and their impact on your daily life, at home and in the workplace. During this session your current abilities in regard to movement and breathing will be assessed. Gyani will work togther with you to decide desired goals and outcomes. You will be provided with some very simple practices to begin working with at home until we meet for your second session.

Session 2: From there depending on how you went with the daily practice, Gyani will explore a variety of options from the yoga toolbox to add to the bespoke home program specifically tailored to your needs. After running through the practice, it will be recorded in written/audio/or video form depending on your needs.

Session 3: During this practice review session, we check that the program is blending seamlessly into your life and make adjustments, as necessary, to timing etc. Gyani will observe you doing the program to check that you are understanding the technique or methodology and provide further instruction as necessary.

Sessions 4 & beyond: Provide ongoing evaluation and adjustments to the home program. Gives opportunity to develop further goals and step by step progression. Continuing sessions gives chance for ongoing feedback and review of personal needs, limitations and intentions.
